SmartEdge 800 router is built from the ground up, with a highly

redundant architecture for both hardware and software which is required for

high availability. In addition, the SmartEdge 800 router provides unmatched

scalability from both a port density standpoint and support for new protocol

requirements. The SmartEdge 800 router enables advanced IP edge aggregation

capabilities with a variety of options for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs),

including BGP/MPLS, GRE tunneling and Layer 2 switching. The SmartEdge 800

router‘s support of virtual interfaces allows customers to be easily switched

between different types of VPNs.

The Redback Subscriber Management System (SMS) 500 is a powerful, highly

intelligent networking device. It bridges the operational gap between

high-speed access equipment in the Telco Central Office or cable/wireless

head-end and service provider backbone routers. Deployed by network service

providers at a Point of Presence (POP), the SMS 500 accepts a large

concentration of high-speed data traffic from such devices as DSL Access

Multiplexers (DSLAMs), Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTSs) and

wireless head-ends. The SMS 500 applies scalable user configuration and

management to the data streams. It then grooms the traffic for service provider

backbone routers by offloading the routers of the intensive processing that

could create bottlenecks in high-speed networks.
